Second Green Flag
For our second Green Flag we worked on the theme of “Energy”.
Children on the Green Schools Committee checked the reading on the ESB meter every morning and they used this information to keep track of the amount of electricity being used in the school. They also checked that the lights and the electrical equipment in classrooms were not being left on when they weren’t needed.
We had a low energy day where we did energy efficient activities like walking or cycling to school. We helped to raise awareness of saving energy in our wider community by publishing a calendar for 2009 with energy saving tips for all.
In December 2008 we submitted our project to An Taisce and in February 2009 we received a letter informing us that our application had been successful.
We travelled to Dublin to collect our second flag on St. Kieran’s Day, March 5 2009.
We raised our second Green Flag on May 8 2009, on the same day as the official opening of our new school extension. The flag was raised by Bishop of Ossory, Séamus Freeman.
