Our Work
Local History Project
In June 2010, children from the senior classes entered a Local History Project that had been organised by Birr Vintage Week Committee.
We had to construct a model of a historical building/area in our area and make an oral presentation about the history of the chosen area in front of a panel of judges in Dooly’s Hotel in Birr.
We chose to make a model of the monastic site in Clareen. We went to the monastic site and took photographs and measurements of the grounds. This helped us to construct our model to scale. It took a number of weeks to finish the model and everyone had a part to play.
We also put together a powerpoint presentation to accompany our oral presentation on the night. Pupils from 4th, 5th and 6th class made the presentation to a crowded room in Dooly’s and when the results were announced at the end of the night we were delighted to hear that we won first prize for all of our work.
Here is the Powerpoint Presentation that the children put together for the competition.
