First Green Flag

We began our Green Schools project on October 4 2005. Mrs. Willliams was the teacher in charge of our Green Schools Project. On our first committee there were six pupils, three teachers and two parents. Each class from 2 to 5 was represented by one pupil on the committee and there were two representatives from 6 class.

Our first Green School theme was “Litter and Waste”. We got three bins (landfill, recycling and compost) and we began to sort our waste. Previously we did no recycling and all our waste went to landfill. The Green Schools Committee made sure that everyone in our school and community was made aware of the importance of recycling. We found that all this helped to hugely reduce the amount of litter that we were sending to landfill each week and so made our school much more environmentally friendly.

Representatives from An Taisce assessed our work in December 2006 and shortly afterwards we received a letter confirming that our project was successful.

On May 9 2007, we raised our first green flag in the school!
