Enrolment Policy
This Policy has been set out in accordance with the provisions of the Education Act 1998.
Seir Kieran's N.S. depends on the grants and teacher resources provided by the Department of Education and Science and this school operates within the regulations laid down from time to time by the Department.
Seir Kieran's N.S. follows the curricular programmes prescribed by the Department of Education and Science. The school also accepts that the curricular programmes may be amended from time to time, in accordance with Section 9 and 30 of the Education Act (l998).
Within the context and parameters of Department of Education and Science regulations and programmes, the right of the Patron, as set out in the Education Act and the funding and resources available.
Seir Kieran's N.S. supports the enrolment of children with a disability or other specific educational needs
Seir Kieran's N.S supports equality of access and participation in the school for all children.
No child will be refused admission for reasons of ethnicity, traveller status, asylum-seeker/refugee status, religious/political beliefs and values, family or social circumstances

Lunch Time: 12.30 - l.00pm

Procedure for Enrolment
1. Application Procedures.
(a) Entrants to Junior Infants in Following September
Parents who wish to enrol pupils in Junior Infants are asked to come to the school on a date in May between the hours of l.05 and 2.05pm. The school community are informed of the date, in May, through the appropriate channels. During that time the parents enrolling the pupil will be asked to fill out an application form for enrolment. Parents are also provided with a booklet containing useful information about our school.
(b) Entrants to any Class During School Term
As above, with the exception of visiting the school on the specified date in May.
2. Provision of Key Information by Parents
Certain information will be required by the school when children are being enrolled. A specific enrolment form is provided for this information.This enrolment form is available for download from our school website. A copy of the form is also available in the school office.
3. Decision Making
Decisions in relation to application for enrolment are made by the Board of Management of Seir Kieran's N.S.
Children will be enrolled on application provided that there is space available.
Children may only be enrolled from the age of 4 years and upwards - the Board of Management is aware that compulsory attendance does not apply until the age of 6 years.
The following criteria shall be used in decision making:
(a) Parish boundaries
(b) Class size
(c) Whether there are siblings of the proposed new entrant already attending the school.
(d) Ages of the children
(e) Ethos consideration.
(f) Lottery
(g) Children from ethnic minorities including travellers, refugees, asylum seekers
4. Admission Date
1st September unless specific circumstances of pupil or school dictate otherwise.
5. Enrolment of children with Special Needs
In relation to application for the enrolment of child/children with Special Needs, the Board of Management of Seir Kieran's will request a copy of the child's medical and/or psychological report or where such report is not available it will request that the child be assessed immediately.
The purpose of the assessment report is to assist the school in establishing the educational and training needs of the child relevant to his/her disability or special needs and to profile the support services required.
Following receipt of the report the Board of Management will assess how the school will meet the needs specified in the report. If further resources are required the Board will, prior to enrolment, request the Department of Education and Science to provide the resources required to meet the needs of the child as outlined in the psychological or medical report.
The school will meet with the parents of the child to discuss the child's needs and the school's suitability or capability in meeting those needs.
The school accepts that if necessary a full case conference may be required in some instances. These case conferences may include Principal, Class teacher, Learning support teacher, Resource teacher and Psychologist.

6. Pupil's Transferring
Pupils wishing to transfer from other schools are enrolled subject to the rules governing National Schools, as well as our own school Enrolment Policy and local agreement with other schools. In accordance with Educational Welfare Act 2000, records of pupil's previous attendance or educational progress should be communicated between schools.
7. Code of Behaviour
Children enrolled in our school are required to co-operate with and support the school Board of Management Code of Behaviour as well as all other policies on curriculum organisation and management. The Board of Management places Parents/Guardians responsible for ensuring that their child/children co-operate with said policies in an age-appropriate way.
